What Makes It Unique

One card. Four permissions.

Unlike most countries where a work permit, residency, and travel permissions are separate documents requiring separate applications, the Taiwan Employment Gold Card combines all four into a single government-issued card. Once you have it, you are free — no additional permits required.

01
Open Work Permit
Work for any employer, multiple employers simultaneously, or be fully self-employed — no restrictions
02
Resident Visa
Legal residency in Taiwan without needing to apply for a separate resident visa or entry clearance
03
Alien Resident Certificate
The ARC is your identity document in Taiwan — required for banking, contracts, and daily life
04
Multiple-Entry Permit
Unlimited travel in and out of Taiwan for the duration of the card — no exit visa required

How to Qualify

Common qualification routes

There is no single fixed requirement — the Gold Card evaluates your profile holistically. However, these are the most common qualifying routes used by successful applicants:

High Income Route
Monthly Salary NT$160,000+ (USD 5,000+)
Professionals earning above this threshold in Economy, Finance, Technology, or Architecture fields can apply directly with salary proof. No educational background requirements apply to this route. This is the most straightforward path for senior executives and high-earning professionals.
Academic Route
PhD from Global Top 500 University
Applicants working in Education or Digital Technology fields who hold a PhD from a globally ranked top 500 university qualify directly. Strong research quality matters more than publication volume — a focused record of high-impact work in Q1/Q2 journals carries significant weight.
Experience Route
5+ Years Professional Experience
Professionals with 5 or more years of working experience in Technology, Finance, Law, Architecture, or Digital fields qualify through demonstrated expertise. Senior executive experience at a multinational corporation also qualifies under this route.
Achievement Route
International Awards, Patents & Outstanding Achievement
Individuals with internationally recognised awards, core patents, or outstanding professional achievements in Sports, Culture, Arts, or Technology qualify through demonstrated impact. This route covers a broad range of profiles — including creative professionals, athletes, and innovators.
Important: These are the most common routes, not an exhaustive list. Taiwan evaluates applications contextually — a combination of experience, recognition, and professional standing can support eligibility even without meeting a single threshold exactly. FAQ

Common questions

Do I need a job offer to apply for the Taiwan Gold Card? +
No — this is the defining feature of the Taiwan Employment Gold Card. You can apply, receive approval, and travel to Taiwan without having any employment secured. Once in Taiwan, you are free to seek employment, work for multiple employers simultaneously, freelance, or establish a business — all under the open work permit included in the card.
Is there a minimum salary requirement? +
There is a salary threshold route that allows direct application — a monthly salary of NT$160,000 (approximately USD 5,000) in qualifying fields. However, this is one qualifying route, not the only one. Applicants can also qualify through academic credentials, professional experience, or demonstrated achievements — without meeting a salary threshold.
How long does the application take? +
The standard government review period is 20 working days from a complete application submission. If additional documents are requested, processing can extend by a further 20 working days. The total timeline from starting document preparation to having the physical Gold Card in Taiwan is typically 2–3 months.
Will my Gold Card be cancelled if I leave Taiwan for an extended period? +
No — there is no minimum stay requirement to maintain the card itself. You can travel freely for business, family, or other reasons without risking the card's validity. The 183 days per year minimum only applies if you are counting that year toward your APRC (permanent residency) application — not for general card maintenance.
Can I apply from Dubai as an Arab or Middle Eastern professional? +
Yes — there are no nationality restrictions on the Taiwan Employment Gold Card. The program is open to all nationalities globally. Applications are submitted online and all steps prior to the passport inspection can be completed from Dubai. You then visit the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in your region for passport inspection before traveling to Taiwan.
Can I pursue the Taiwan Gold Card and UAE Golden Visa at the same time? +
Yes — the two applications are entirely independent. Many professionals pursue the UAE Golden Visa for long-term regional stability while simultaneously exploring the Taiwan Gold Card as an Asia-Pacific option. Holding a UAE Golden Visa does not affect a Taiwan application in any way.
